This workshop provides an overview of two recent research projects that collected data on the uses of and attitudes to Generative AI tools among Irish undergraduates. These studies - focused on media production and design students from three Irish universities, and in the second case on students from a wider array of disciplines including humanities, health sciences, and business - provide some key insights on how contemporary third-level students understand AI (or don't) and how their expectations have affected trust in the academic process. The workshop will also detail efforts made at DCU to connect this work, and recent staff focus groups about AI in research, to the creation of university policy and the drafting of imperatives for staff response.
The workshop will provide an opportunity for questions and discussion of topics related to the effective and ethical integration of AI in university Teaching & Learning.
